Music LessonsRoss Harris

I teach children ages four and up and adults. My approach to teaching music is multidimensional. Learning notes and rhythms is a good place to start, but what about ear training, technical exercises, improvisation, performing, composing, leading a band, or listening to great performances? My goal is to explore each student's interests and find a good balance among these elements of music. That said, I also believe in a strong foundation in classical music.

There are many pieces by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and many others that students can learn after a year or two of basic instruction. The classical style has evolved a detailed musical language that once learned can be applied to virtually any kind of contemporary music. With most of my students I take a relaxed approach; however, if a student demonstrates talent and interest, I will pose plenty of challenges, develop their skills thoroughly, and hold their playing to high standards.

I prefer that my private students come to my home studio in Hillsdale, but I can also go to a student's home. Lessons are $25 for a half-hour lesson and $40 for an hour lesson.
